Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has described the story of the new movie (Spoiler warning if you haven’t finished reading the manga):
Boruto is the son of the seventh Hokage Naruto who completely rejects his father. Behind this, he has feelings of wanting to surpass Naruto, who is respected as a hero. He ends up meeting his father’s friend Sasuke, and requests to become… his apprentice!? The curtain rises on the story of the new generation written by Masashi Kishimoto!
The original Naruto manga author Masashi Kishimoto was in charge of the script and character designs, and is credited as chief production supervisor as well as the creator of the original story. Ukyō Kodachi of Chaos Dragon collaborated with Kishimoto on the script, and Hiroyuki Yamashita, episode director of Naruto Shippūden and animation director for Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie, directed the film which opened in Japan on August 7th.
