On Thursday, Deadline Hollywood reported that the female lead for Warner Brothers’ Death Note movie, presumably the equivalent to the manga’s Misa Misa, is in negotiations and likely to be cast.
If she accepts the offer, Margaret Qualley of The Leftovers will star alongside Nat Wolff.
Although neither of their characters’ names has been announced, Variety described Wolff’s role as “a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone simply by writing the victim’s name”, who will face off against a “reclusive police officer”. As for Qualley’s character, no other details have been revealed for the moment.
Adam Wingard, director of You’re Next, is heading up proceedings on the movie while the writer of this year’s Fantastic Four, Jeremy Slater, is working on the script. Those pitching in as producers include Lin Pictures’ Dan Lin (The Lego Movie), Viz Productions’ Jason Hoffs (Edge of Tomorrow), Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (Dark Water) and actor Masi Oka of Heroes and Hawaii Five-0, while Doug Davison of The Grudge and Brian Written of Final Destination are on board as executive producers. Production for the film is set to begin in spring 2016.
