A short anime adaptation of the Koyomimonogatari novel by NisiOisin has been announced by the Monogatari anime franchise’s official website, which will be available free from January 9th via the ‘Koyomimonogatari’ app coming out for iOS and Android. The Monogatari anime series’ producer Atsuhiro Iwakami has said before that while a full-length TV anime adaptation of the novel – told through twelve stories set before Owarimonogatari – is already in the works, because of the novel’s short story format he is still in deliberations with Akiyuki Shinbo and studio SHAFT on how to announce and present the anime to viewers.

But for the moment, the plan for the app is that it will update with a new Koyomimonogatari episode every week, with each new short video available free for a limited time on the day of release. The pop group TrySail formed of three anime voice actresses, Momo Asakura, Sora Amamiya and Shiina Natsukawa, will perform the series’ theme song ‘whiz’, which will debut on Saturday in a new commercial for the Owarimonogatari anime currently airing. The app will also feature a calendar with newly recorded voices once the Koyomimonagatari anime premieres, and the app itself will be available to download from December 19th.
