One of our favourite film critics and fellow Brit, Mark Kermode, has included The Tale of the Princess Kaguya in his personal top ten film list for 2015. His earlier Observer review of Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata’s suspected final film highlighted it, within “painful tenderness”, as “a parable of the emptiness of earthly possessions and the transcendent power of love.”

It may have missed out on the Golden Globes, as no anime movies were among the nominees for Best Animated Feature, but The Tale of the Princess Kaguya remains one of the most visually and soulfully stunning releases of the year for us here at our little blog.
