Today brings with it the confirmation that Sakamoto, of Nami Sano’s manga Sakamoto desu ga? (Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto), will grace Japan’s TV screens with his presence in an anime adaptation airing in April 2016 on TBS and BS-TBS. The main staff and eponymous hero’s voice actor have also been announced on the anime’s official website and Twitter, which both opened today, and Sakamoto looks suitably dapper in the show’s first main visual.
With Shinji Takamatsu of Gintama on board as director, Hikaru Midorikawa, who voiced Heero Yuy in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and Zelgadis Greywords in Slayers, will be playing the lead with his co-stars to follow in later announcements. Studio DEEN’s Atsuko Nakajima, character designer for Hakuoki, also joins the team with Yasuhiko Fukuda of the Prison School live-action drama composing music.
As the fourth and final volume of the manga is published in Japan today, having finished its run in Kadokawa’s Harta magazine in December, plans are being made to provide Sakamoto with his red-carpet event, as only befits his “coolness” and ability to attract attention wherever he goes. Both the director and star of the show will be attending an advance screening of the anime’s first episode, along with Shonen Maid’s, at Tokyo’s Yarakucho Asahi Hall on March 12th.
