LINE Webtoon’s Korean comic Noblesse brings together the most beloved monsters from Gothic literature – namely vampires and the good doctor Frankenstein – in 400 digital chapters, mesmerising readers into over two billion page views since it started up in 2007. Now, Ghost in the Shell’s Production I.G has animated a 30-minute short of Jeho Son and Kwangsu Lee’s creation, with direction by Shunsuke Tada of Kuroko’s Basketball and Kazuto Nakazawa, the animation director for Kill Bill’s ultra-violent anime injection.
This snapshot of the comic, titled Noblesse: Awakening, debuted on Crunchyroll as well as Webtoon’s own website on Thursday, and marks LINE’s first ever video output. They describe their ongoing beastly tale:
Cadis E. di Raizel, the noblest of all vampires, wakes up from 820-years long sleep and starts a new life as a high school student. His peaceful days as a student are soon interrupted by a group of attackers known as the “Unions.” Noblesse follows Raizel and his loyal servant, Frankenstein, as they constantly protect and save Raizel’s new human friends from the mysterious threats.
Along with the animated short, the comic’s first spin-off Noblesse: Rai’s Adventure also released its first chapter. The ten-episode run will be available for a limited time from the Webtoon site, as well as their iOS and Android apps.
