News: Gundam Seed’s head scriptwriter Chiaki Morosawa passes away

The anime scriptwriter Chiaki Morosawa, esteemed for her work on the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed anime series, has passed away aged 56. As confirmed by Sunrise through the author and My Neighbour Totoro production co-ordinator Hirokatsu Kihara, aortic dissection led to her passing on Friday, February 19th.

Dedicated to Gundam Seed, Morisawa teamed up with her husband and director Mitsuo Fukuda to supervise and write the first anime series and its sequel Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny. She was also on both the Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny compilation movie teams, and collaborated on the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Re: manga. Outside of Gundam, she’s known for her writing on the Future GPX Cyber Formula Saga and Future GPX Cyber Formula Sin video anime series, as well as the Gear Fighter Dendoh TV anime.

In 2008, Morosawa told her fans that she had a plot in place for a new Gundam Seed movie, but that she had been ill since Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny ended its run in 2005. It’s a saddening thought that she was never again able to write for the series she was obviously passionate about, but the armies of Gundam fans worldwide will remember her for all she accomplished for the franchise in her lifetime.
