Trademarks have been filed for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon at the European Union’s Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM), but it isn’t time to dig out the old Pokédex just yet. Although the listed owner is Nintendo Co. Ltd., anybody can apply for a trademark before they are examined for authenticity.
The parody Twitter account @NinlendoAmerica made a faux confirmation of the news, but there’s been no official confirmation from Nintendo yet. It would make sense for a new Pokémon game duo to be announced in the near future, but we’ll have to wait and see if Sun and Moon is the genuine article.
In definitely-genuine 20th anniversary news, Nintendo are hosting a Pokémon Direct livestream today at 10:00am EST to celebrate the occasion. But unfortunately for us outside the US, the stream is only going out to North America. Whether Sun and Moon will be announced during the stream remains to be seen, but the timing is right, so it might just be the case.
