News: Reiko Yoshida and Atto’s maritime anime Hai-Furi casts its lead

The first cast member for Girls und Panzer and K-ON! writer Reiko Yoshida and Non Non Biyori author Atto’s original anime Hai-Furi has been announced, with Shiina Natsukawa on deck as Akeno Misaki. She stars alongside Misaki’s childhood friend Moeka China, whose voice actor is expected to be revealed soon, and is best known as Celestial Method’s Nonoka Komiya, as well as being a member of the VA group TrySail who perform the anime’s opening theme ‘High Free Spirits’.

Natsukawa’s cast confirmation begins a full month’s run of daily updates on characters and their voice actors, and she’ll be attending the two advance screenings of the series’ first episode in Memorial Ship Mikasa on April 2nd. The show’s original story creator Takaaki Suzuki, known for being the military advisor on Strike Witches and Girls und Panzer, will be joining her on stage at the event for a talk show, and if you want to apply to attend you can fill in the web form here.

Director Yu Nobuta of A Good Librarian Like a Good Shepherd is leading on this series at Production IMS of Active Raid and The Testament of Sister New Devil. Alongside Atto’s work as character designer in collaboration with Yoshida, Naoto Nakamura of Sword Art Online II adapts the character designs for animation, with the Expelled from Paradise studio Graphinica producing filming and editing the CG.

Announced as premiering on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV and Gunma TV on April 9th,  the show follows Akeno Misaki and Moeka China’s start at an all-girls school that specialises in teaching maritime skill and culture. Together with their new friends, they train to protect the seas as Blue Mermaids.
