Thanks to a sizeable update on Studio TRIGGER’s original anime Kiznaiver, we now know that we can look forward to the first episode airing in April, with previews of the first two episodes coming on March 27th to tide us over. The theme song performers have also been revealed, with Boom Boom Satellites of Gundam Unicornfame providing the opening and Sangatsu no Phantasia performing the ending, and the striking new visual of the main cast of characters has got us very excited indeed.
Hiroshi Kobayashi, an episode director for Tiger & Bunny and Kill la Kill, is taking his first lead directorial role for this show, the name of which is taken from the words “kizuna” (connection) and “naïve”. Mari Okada, who wrote for Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, is on the team as scriptwriter, and manga artist Shirou Miwa, whose latest work DOGS/ BULLETS&CARNAGE has been serialised in Shueisha’s Ultra Jump, provides original character designs. Mai Yoneyma, an assistant chief animation director on Kill la Kill, takes those character designs and adapts them for animation, and Haikyu!!’s Yuuki Hayashi is composing the music to complement the art.
Update: Crunchyroll has now offered up the details for their exclusive stream of the Kiznaiver anime, confirming the air date of April 9th at 8:30am PST. There are more territories yet to be announced, but for now we know the simulcast will reach the Americas, the Middle East and Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and English-speaking Europe including the UK, Ireland and the Nordics.
Crunchyroll describes the show in announcing: “A story about bonds created through wounds. A story about youth, of boys and girls sharing their ‘pain’ starts now!!”
