The promo for the upcoming Ace Attorney anime has been, quite surprisingly, on the quiet side, with no major details appearing since last month’s premiere announcement for April 2nd. Many of the video teasers and previews have been kept for Japan’s eyes only, but at least now we have our first commercial trailer to get a rough sense of how the series will look and sound.

As part of the whole event being created around the franchise, with a live-action film, stage play and manga all being developed for this year, A-1 Pictures’ Ayumu Watanabe, known for the Doraemon films, will be directing the anime starring Yuuki Kaji, who voiced Attack on Titan‘s Eren, as Phoenix Wright/Ryuuichi Naruhodou, and Puella Magi’s Madoka, Aoi Yuuki, as Maya Fey/Mayoi Ayasato. The actors lending their voices to the other beloved characters are as follows:

Masashi Tamaki as Miles Edgeworth/Reiji Mitsurugi
Chie Nakamura (Naruto’s Sakura) as Mia Fey/Chihiro Ayasato
Masami Iwasaki (Akame ga KILL!‘s Borick) as Dick Gumshoe/Keisuke Itonokogiri
Tooru Nara (Chihayafuru‘s Yuusei Nishida) as Larry Butz/Masashi Yahari

Meanwhile, Atsuhiro Tomioka of Pokémon XY is in charge of series composition, with Hyakko’s Keiko Outa working on character design and InuYasha’s Kaoru Wada composing the music.

Anime based on video games don’t tend to be very good. Hopefully Ace Attorney will buck that trend.
