Flowers of Evil

Flowers of Evil, Shūzō Oshimi’s disturbed manga which plays out the nature of perversion in youth, is being adapted into a stage play written and directed by Takuya Katoh, who is ecstatic to be adapting his favourite manga for the stage. It will be performed by the Gekidan Takumi theatre company, though precise casting is yet to be announced, at the Yume Machi Theatre in Taitō, Tokyo starting July 27th.

Running for ten performances until July 31st, Katoh has said he will try his hardest to direct the play in a way that shows the utmost respect for the manga. Originally serialised in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine from 2009-2014, it was adapted into a 2013 anime with rotoscoped visuals which proved controversial for fans of the manga and Oshimi’s art. The series was released in the UK by MVM on November 2nd, and if you missed our review, you can read it here.
