News: Hello Kitty becomes a sweet superhero in Ichigoman web manga

The alter-ego of Sanrio’s Hello Kitty, the superhero Ichigoman, will be piloting mecha, teaming up with aliens and conquering the monsters born from humanity’s wicked hearts in her new Comip! webcomic. Hello Kitty’s original designer Yuko Yamaguchi is also the creator of Ichigoman, who first appeared in a 2011 exhibition of her work, and she is leading the project. Working with screenwriter Toshiki Inoue and artist Shakura Sinkai on the series published under Shueisha’s division label Home-Sha, Yamaguchi has her kawaii kitty backed up by her sidekicks, Dark Grape Man and Honey Momo, on monthly missions for justice.

With actor Kohei Murakami in charge of planning for the project, Ichigoman will get a new chapter on the 15th of every month, playing on the words for “one” (“ichi”) and “five” (“go”) which come together to form the word for “strawberry”. You can find the first chapter here, then you’ll just have to stand the wait for more Hello Kitty in her Hello-Kitty-shaped robotic suit.
