Yoshifumi Kondo, the Whisper of the Heart director who sadly passed in 1998, is having his beautiful animation and character designs displayed in an Osaka art exhibition during Golden Week this year. From April 27 to May 9, the Hankyu Umeda Gallery will hold 500 of his Studio Ghibli works, created alongside Hayao Miyazaki and the dearly missed Isao Takahata. Storyboards, image boards, key animation art and sketches for Anne of Green Gables, Grave of the Fireflies, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Only Yesterday and Princess Mononoke will be there, among others, to be admired by his and the studio’s fans, and taken home as clear files and postcards.
