News: Eiichiro Oda lends a hand with One Piece anime’s Sabo flashback episode

Eiichiro Oda was on board to help develop the original scenario for yesterday’s One Piece episode 737, as revealed by  the franchise’s official website. The flashback episode the series creator was on hand for is called ‘The Birth of the Legend! The Adventures of the Revolutionary Warrior Sabo!’, and on April 17th it will tell a tale to expand Sabo’s backstory, centred on his early days with the Revolutionary Army.

The script notes above, released as a teaser, have Sabo at 10 years old, Koala as 12 and Hack aged 26, and blurred-out sections cut off the sentences “Koala’s ___” and “Kuma also ___.” But what can be read of the script itself sees Hack explaining that Sabo doesn’t seem like the kind of pampered prince you’d expect from a noble family, and that he is considering handing the boy over to Dragon for further training. We’ll be waiting a while in the UK before we can watch this episode for ourselves, but at least this leaves us with some intriguing tips as to how Sabo’s story will develop.
