News: Danganronpa 3 anime enrolls three new students and announces returning cast

The official Twitter account for the anime Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibogamine Gakuen announced the first three new cast enrolled at Hope’s Peak today. Saki Fujita, known as KanColle‘s Akagi, joins as Seiko Kimura, with Black Bullet‘s Inori Minase as Ruruka Ando, and Takuya Eguchi of Kuroko’s Basketball as Sonosuke Izayoi for ‘Mirai Hen’.

These all-new characters to the franchise were revealed for the anime’s first part alongside Yoko Hikasa as Kyoko Kirigiri, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Kazuichi Soda and Megumi Ogata as  Makoto Naegi. All three of the latter reprise their roles from the games and previous anime, and Ogata will also play Nagito Komaeda in the second part, ‘Zetsubo Hen’.

It was also previously confirmed that Nobuyo Oyama is leaving her role as Monokuma, to be replaced by TARAKO in both the anime and upcoming stage play. Additionally, the site announced more cast returning from the Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair game for the anime’s ‘Zetsubo Hen’ part, listing Ami Koshimizu as Ibuki Mioda, Ai Kayano as Mikan Tsumiki, Yu Kobayashi as Mahiru Koizumi, and Suzuko Mimori as Hiyoko Saionji.

In the ‘Despair Chapter’ (‘Zetsubo Hen’), the focus will be on what happened to Super Danganronpa 2’s characters before the game’s plotline. Afterwards, the ‘Future Chapter’ (‘Mirai Hen’), which premieres in July, will put the characters from the first game in the spotlight. The two parts are previewed in the promo below, but if you don’t want spoilers for the second game, we’d advise skipping ahead to 3:07.

FUNimation, who streamed the Danganronpa the Animation series as it aired in 2013, describe the story based on the first Spike Chunsoft game:

Hope’s Peak Academy is an exclusive private school that only accepts the best of the best. Graduates of this elite – yet enigmatic – institution have the world at their fingertips, but getting a cap and gown is easier said than done. The hallowed halls are ruled by the sadistic administrator Monobear, who declares that the only way to pass the class is by sending a fellow student home in a body bag. If you can get away with murder, you’ll get your diploma. But if you’re caught red handed, you’ll find yourself on the receiving end of a deadly detention slip!
