Guy, Kakashi and Mirai to star in new Naruto novel

A new Naruto novel project Konoha Shinden (Konoha New Legend, not to be confused with True Legend which uses different characters), has been revealed this week in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump NEXT!! magazine. The three protagonists of this new story set between the original manga and the spin-off manga Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring – Guy, Kakashi, and Asuma and Kurenai’s daughter Mirai – will meet at a hot spring and take a journey which will “tie together Naruto and Boruto.” The tale will be complemented by illustrations from Sho Hinata of the Naruto – Konoha Hiden: Shugen Biyori novel.

Since Masashi Kishimoto’s original Naruto manga ended in November 2014, the story has branched out even further in six character-focused Hiden (Hidden Legend) novels, and three Shinden (True Legend) novels. Takachi Yano’s Itachi Shinden novel was published in two parts last September and October, with Itachi Shinden: Komyo-hen (The True Legend of Itachi: Glory Volume) the first released, followed by Itachi Shinden: Anya-hen (The True Legend of Itachi: Dark Night Volume). The story which inspired the latest Naruto Shippuden spin-off arc is described on Amazon:

Itachi Uchiha, age four. After seeing what occurs on the battlefield up close, he makes a certain decision. He decided that he would change the world. The dream that Itachi aimed for. His dream: A Hokage from the Uchiha clan, and a future where those he loved could live in peace. His time in the ninja academy, his meeting with Shisui, becoming a Genin, Chunin, and finally a member of the Anbu… Itachi ran straight down a path of glory, not knowing that a cruel darkness was spreading… This is the story of the glory, frustration, and determination of the ninja called a genius.

Itachi Shinden, the first of the Naruto True Legend novels, was joined by Sasuke’s story Sasuke Shinden last November. VIZ Media have all three books lined up for US release this fall, winter, then spring 2017.
