News: Yen Press license Goblin Slayer! light novels and upcoming manga

The publishing news site Publishers Weekly have announced  that Yen Press have licensed Kumo Kagyu and Noboru Kannatsuki’s Goblin Slayer! light novels for English editions, as well as snagging Kosuke Kurose’s manga adaptation of the series for simultaneous publication. The manga will launch in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan magazine on May 25th, and Yen Press will release the light novels’ first volume in December.

The Publishers Weekly article also revealed some more information on Kadokawa’s purchase of a 51% stake in Yen Press. As per the agreement, Yen Press will continue to license manga and light novels from other publishers, and likewise, Kadokawa will license its works outside of Yen Press. Rather, the key difference is that Yen Press will have “first-and-last-look” privileges over Kadokawa’s manga titles.

SB Creative published the first volume of the Goblin Slayer! dark fantasy novels on February 15th, and the second volume was released in Japan on Saturday. Writer Kagyu of The Idolm@ster Neue Green for Dearly Stars, alongside illustrator Kannatsuki, first published the series online. It follows a man with the goal of becoming an “adventurer”, with the strict stipulation that he’ll only kill goblins. After hearing rumours of the hero’s goblin-slaying deeds, a female elf comes to him with a request.
