The Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo may be closed for business now, but when it reopens after renovations this July, it will be painted in brighter colours and have new and improved exhibits to explore. For one, there will be a retrospective on animation curated by the magical mastermind Miyazaki himself, but more importantly, the Catbus will be upsized so it’s big enough for adults to hop aboard.

The new exhibit with the Catbus as the star, called ‘Nekobus ni notte Ghibli no Mori he’ (‘Riding the Catbus to Ghibli Forest’), will run from reopening day on July 16th until May of 2017. It will take its place alongside the robot of Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and more exhibits based on Spirited AwayPonyo and Heidi, Girl of the Alps, with other universal fairytales and fantasies like Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Nutcracker joining in.
