At the ‘Take Off’ event held in Tokyo on Sunday (May 29th) for the Strike Witches spin-off anime Brave Witches, the main cast for the characters we first met back in March was announced at last. The stand-alone series will premiere in fall starring the girls of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing squadron, to be voiced as follows:
Hiromi Igarashi (Anzu Futaba in The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls) as Edytha Rossmann
Rina Sato (Mikoto Misaka in A Certain Magical Index) as Gundula Rall
Yumi Hara (Takane Shijo in The Idolm@ster) as Alexsandra I. Pokryshkin
Natsumi Takamori (Miku Maekawa in The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls) as Nikka Edvardine Katajainen
Ai Kakuma (Isuzu Sento in Amagi Brilliant Park) as Hikari Karibuchi
Rie Murakawa (Hotaru Ichijo in Non Non Biyori) as Naoe Kanno
Rie Suegara (Yui Komori in Diabolik Lovers) as Takami Karibuchi
Kayo Ishida (Yui Watanabe in Vividred Operation) as Waltrud Krupinski
Haruka Terui (Kobeni Yonomori in Engaged to the Unidentified) as Georgette Lemare
Marin Mizutani as Sadako Shimohara
Yoko Ishida, who sang the theme songs for both Strike Witches anime series and the OVA Operation Victory Arrow, is confirmed as yet another returning name, as she will perform the opening theme for Brave Witches. In the previous staff listing and promo trailer, Kazuhiro Takamura was revealed to be returning from Strike Witches to direct, with SILVER LINK also back from Operation Victory Arrow to take charge of animation. Series composition is handled by Striker Unit, while Humikane Shimada provides original character designs for Takamura to adapt to the anime, and Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Daijo Kudo plan the project.
Takaaki Suzuki, who has been with Strike Witches throughout the anime series, OVA and film, is also back on the team as military history adviser and the man in charge of world setting. Hiroyuki Terao returns on mechanical design, with Tomohiro Yoshida back as sound director at Glovision, and Seika Nagaoka once again composing the music which Nippon Columbia will be producing.
The official Strike Witches site confirmed in October 2013 that the third anime series had been green-lit, but Suzuki was quick to clarify that the new series would not be “the third season” of Strike Witches. Instead, it should be considered as a new stand-alone series.
Update: The Brave Witches anime’s official website is now streaming a second promo video, where we meet the main characters of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing. As they’re introduced, we can also see our first preview of the show’s animation.
The site also gave colour previews of Hikari and Takari Karibuchi’s character designs. More will follow next week for Naoe Kanno, Waltrud Krupinski, and Nikka Edvardine Katajainen.
