News: My Love Story!! manga due to end as Nisekoi enters climax

Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine revealed on Monday (June 13th) that its alternate-viewpoint shojo rom-com My Love Story!! will end on July 13th with the magazine’s August issue. This final chapter of Kazune Kawahara and Aruko’s manga will be 100 pages long to celebrate, and will also feature a centre colour page.

Bessatsu Margaret editor-in-chief Takaaki Imai revealed in January that the series was approaching its pinnacle, after Kawahara first launched the story’s original 100-page version in Bessatsu Margaret Sister in October 2011, then brought it to Bessatsu Margaret as a serialised manga in April 2012. The series went on to win Best Shojo Manga at the 37th Kodansha Manga Awards the following year. Shueisha published the 12th compiled volume on May 25th, and VIZ Media, who publish the manga in North America, summarise its story as follows:

Takeo Goda is a giant guy with a giant heart. Too bad the girls don’t want him! (They want his good-looking best friend, Sunakawa.) Used to being on the sidelines, Takeo simply stands tall and accepts his fate. But one day when he saves a girl named Yamato from a harasser on the train, his (love!) life suddenly takes an incredible turn!

Meanwhile, on the same day in this year’s 28th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, it was announced that Naoshi Komi’s Nisekoi – False love manga is approaching the final stretch of its story. The series will enter its “climax” (the word used being “kakyo”, the Japanese word for “climax”, rather than the phonic katakana spelling which can refer to a manga’s final chapter) in the magazine’s next issue, which will be published on June 20th. This chapter will run featuring a centre colour page too.

While Komi drew the original ‘Nisekoi’ as a one-shot for Jump Next! magazine in 2011, it was brought back as a manga series in November that same year. The 15th compiled volume of the manga was published by Shueisha on May 3rd, and VIZ Media, who serialise English-language chapters of the manga as they’re released in Japan, describe the story:

It’s hate at first sight—or rather a knee to the head at first sight —when Raku Ichijo meets Chitoge Kirisaki! Unfortunately, Raku’s gangster father arranges a false love match between Raku and their rival gang leader’s daughter, who just so happens to be Chitoge! Raku’s searching for his childhood sweetheart from ten years ago, however, with a pendant around his neck as a memento…but he can’t even remember the girl’s name or face!
