Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine will be announcing tomorrow (June 22nd) that Love Hina! author Ken Akamatsu’s UQ Holder! manga is getting an anime adaptation. No further details about this project are available as yet, but more news for the manga reveals that it’s switching magazines, from Weekly Shonen to its monthly Kodansha partner Bessatsu Shonen. While the series makes the move, UQ Holder! will go on a break from tomorrow, making its debut in Bessatsu Shonen on October 9th.
Launched in Weekly Shonen Magazine in August 2013, and set in the same world as Akamatsu’s previous Negima! manga, UQ Holder! takes place several years after its predecessor’s story. Kodansha will publish the manga’s 11th volume in Japan on July 15th, and Kodansha Comics, who will release its eighth English volume that same month, give the series the following summary:
Negi Springfield, the boy wizard of the hit manga Negima!, fought and won many battles. Now it is decades later and Negi’s grandson(!), a little boy name Touta, dreams of leaving his quiet village and heading to the City. But first he must defeat his teacher … the immortal vampire, Evangeline! Witness the dramatic beginning of a futuristic battle fantasy—the newest series by Ken Akamatsu, creator of Love Hina and Negima!
