Shortly after Netflix revealed that Straight Outta Compton‘s Keith Stanfield would be portraying their live-action Death Note‘s L, Vancouver filming trackers YVRShoots have captured the actor on set in the British Columbian city, which stands in for the manga adaptation’s new setting of Seattle. In the images, it appears that L is holding a press conference in front of the building which, in real life, contains the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Netflix took the project on back in April, after Warner Bros. distribution rights expired. Production is projected to cost something within “the $40 million-$50 million range”, and was expected to go ahead with filming in June. Also starring Nat Wolff as Light Turner and Margaret Qualley as Mia Sutton, Adam Wingard of The Guest and You’re Next is attached to direct, and Fantastic Four‘s Jeremy Slater penned the most recent draft of the script.
