In unfortunate news for fans of the IDOLM@STER franchise, THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELA GIRLS manga has been cancelled, as announced by publishers Ichijinsha in their Monthly Comic Rex magazine. The series written by Yuniko Ayana with art by So Ueto, which launched in Monthly Comic Rex in September 2015, has been suffering from multiple hiatuses, its most recent one ongoing since the magazine’s May 2016 issue. Now it’s been announced that, due to Ueto’s ill health, the current hiatus has been forced to become a permanent cancellation.

In the statement which notifies the manga’s readers that Ueto is unable to continue her artwork for the series, Ichijinsha thank fans for their support of CINDERELLA GIRLS. Explaining the circumstances that led to the decision, they apologise for the cancellation and wish Ueto a quick recovery as she focuses on being treated for her illness, and getting some rest to recuperate.

It really is, and without knowing the nature of Ueto’s illness it’s hard to tell the cause. But the stressful, deadline heavy work manga artists do will take its toll on the mind, and physical illness sometimes comes out as a warning sign of the mental strain. They clearly all do it for the love of their work to put up with it all.

How sad 🙁 Seems like a lot of people in the manga/anime industry suffer from ill health. I hope the working pressures aren’t a factor.
