Mashable reported on Tuesday (August 2nd) that Willem Dafoe, who’s currently filming Justice League as Aquaman acolyte Nuidis Vulko, has closed a deal to be the voice of Ryuk in Netflix’s live-action Death Note. The shinigami’s name is one of a few left unchanged, with lead Natt Wolff’s role renamed as Light Turner, and co-star Margaret Qualley as Mia Sutton rather than Misa Amane.
Netflix took on the project back in April, after Warner Bros.’ distribution rights expired. With filming previously set to go ahead in June, and a view to a 2017 release, Keith Stanfield was spotted filming as L in Vancouver in July. Adam Wingard of The Guest and You’re Next is attached to direct, with Roy Lee of The Ring and Dan Lin of Sherlock Holmes producing. Fantastic Four‘s Jeremy Slater penned the most recent draft of the script.
