Strike the Blood II teaser promo brings back familiar staff, adds cast

The hopes of fans present at a Strike the Blood event in April came to fruition in the announcement of a new OVA series, based on Gakuto Mikumo and Manyako’s light novels, in May. The anime returns with an adaptation of volume 9, Black Sword Shaman, which will be retold across four volumes of two episodes each. Each couple of episodes will be released on November 23rd, December 21st, March 29th and April 26th, and Warner Bros. Japan has released a promo video revealing the series’ title as Strike the Blood II (Strike the Blood Second).

The teaser also announces the mostly returning cast and staff, with director Hideyo Yamamoto of the Strike the Blood: Valkyria no Okoku-hen (Kingdom of the Valkyria) OVA back at studios SILVER LINK and CONNECT. Script writer Hiroyuki Yoshino also returns on series composition, alongside character designer Keiichi Sano.

Yamamoto heads up a main cast including Yoshimasa Hosoya as Kojo Akatsuki, Risa Taneda as Yukina Himeragi, Asami Seto as Asagi Aiba, Rina Hidaka as Nagisa Akatsuki, Ikumi Hayama as Sayaka Kirisaka, Ryota Ohsaka as Motoki Yaze, Kanae Ito as Kanon Kanase, and Hisako Kanemoto as Natsuki Minamiya. New cast members joining include Nao Toyama (Nisekoi‘s Chitoge) as Yume Eguchi, and Yukiyo Fujii (Patema in Patema Inverted) as Kiriha Kisaki. Both characters first appeared in the light novel series’ ninth volume, and so will be new additions to the anime.

Returning from performing the original anime’s opening theme, Kishida Kyodan & The Akeboshi Rockets will perform the opening for the new OVA. Yukina voice actor Taneda will perform the ending theme song as her character.

The first anime series directed by Takao Sano and Yamamoto, with animation by SILVER LINK and CONNECT, aired in 2013. The same team made the two-episode Valkyria no Okoku-hen OVA, which was released in 2015. Crunchyroll streamed the 2013 anime as it aired in Japan, and they describe its story:

The fourth Progenitor is the most powerful vampire once thought to exist only in the world of legends. Yet when it appears in Japan, the government for some reason chooses an apprentice “sword shaman”, Yukina Himeragi, to observe and obliterate it. Bewildered by the disproportionate task and its specific details, Yukina arrives at the Demon District of Itogami-jima to watch Akatsuki Kojo, and a student at a private high school on Itogami-jima.
