News: Guardians of the Galaxy and Disney’s Gravity Falls writers in talks for Legendary’s live-action Pokémon

Entertainment news site Variety reported on Tuesday (August 16th) that Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman and Gravity Falls‘ Alex Hirsch are in negotiations to write the live-action Pokémon film in the works at Legendary Entertainment. Nicole Perlman is currently writing the script for the Captain Marvel movie. And as well as working on the aforementioned Disney animated series, Alex Hirsch was a storyboard artist for the Cartoon Network show The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.

Legendary Entertainment and The Pokémon Company announced in July that Legendary Pictures had acquired the rights to produce a live-action Pokémon movie, after Legendary, Sony and Warner Bros. competed in an auction for the rights. Set to begin production in 2017, the film will feature franchise mascot Pikachu as his 3DS alter-ego as of February this year, Detective Pikachu. Toho will be distributing the film in Japan, while Universal Pictures hold that responsibility in other territories.
