After a decade-long gap following volume 11, Hideyuki Kurata’s R.O.D: Read or Die will be back on August 25th with the 12th and no longer final book. From an early glimpse at the cover, we can gather that Shueisha’s Super Dash Bunko label is hinting that the anime is due to return too, as a notice reads “New anime project in development?!”
A-1 Pictures president Tomonori Ochikoshi, who also produced the 2003 anime R.O.D the TV at J.C.Staff, offers the caveat that the new anime project is under consideration. The light novels were also previously made into a three-part OVA in 2001, and a manga, written by Kurata and illustrated by Shutaro Yamada, for Ultra Jump magazine from 2000-2005. Crunchyroll describe the 26-episode TV series as follows:
From bulletproof dragons to lock-picks, a paper master manipulates paper to their will. In Hong Kong, three young paper masters, Anita, Maggie and Michelle, use their formidable skills to protect Nenene, an author targeted by a mad bomber. As their bodyguard duties take them to Tokyo, they will be educated on the dangers of literacy!
