Studio 4°C had a guest animation slot on The Amazing World of Gumball just last weekend, so now it seems there’s a spate of anime celebrities contributing to Cartoon Network shows of late. This time Takafumi Hori, studio TRIGGER veteran of Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia, has been granted a wish as a fan of Steven Universe and worked on the Emmy-nominated series himself. The episode in question, ‘Mindful Education’, debuts today (August 25th) with Hori credited as special guest animator.

Storyboarder Jeff Liu thanked Hori for his participation in the episode, and Hori-san responded with gratitude to creator and storyboarder Rebecca Sugar in turn, saying “This is the first collaboration of Steven Crewniverse and studio TRIGGER! Rebecca-san, from the bottom of my heart, I’m most grateful to have been given this opportunity. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to all of the staff!”

I haven’t seen Steven Universe but now with this news, I kinda curious about checking this episode. It seems the cartoons are allowing anime companies to collaborate more often.

Makes me curious about checking out the show too. It’s great to see cartoons learning from and paying homage to the complexities of anime. The best cartoons aren’t just “for kids”, and don’t talk down to their audience either way.

I hear so much good things about this cartoon. You know, it kinda reminds me of some cartoons where they get the inspiration from DragonBall Z but now cartoons like Steven Universe, they are expanding and revealing different anime.
