Update: Latest trailer for Sound! Euphonium 2 adds new cast, previews opening theme

Last October brought us the confirmation that Kyoto Animation’s Sound! Euphonium would be getting a second season, and after an over-eager promotion let its premiere slip a touch early, the series’ compilation movie Gekijo-ban Hibike! Euphonium: Kitauji Koko Suisoraku-Bu e Yokoso (Sound! Euphonium the Movie: Welcome to the Kitauji High School Concert Band) announced its October 2016 release in April. Now we have a precise premiere date, the show’s official website confirming that Sound! Euphonium 2‘s first episode will air on October 5th. Following this news, a second trailer was posted on Saturday (September 10th) introducing a new instructor to the band, featuring TRUE’s opening theme ‘Soundscape’, and announcing two cast additions.

The new cast members are:

Yuichi Nakamura (CLANNAD‘s Tomoya Okazaki) as Masahiro Hashimoto, a percussion specialist who’s been friends with music teacher Noburo Taki since college. A strong leader, he’s always seen wearing a gaudy shirt.

Hoko Kuwashima (InuYasha‘s Sango) as Satomi Nishiyama, a flute specialist who os responsible for the woodwind section at Kitauji High School. Also a friend of  Masahiro and Noburo since college, she may appear gentle, but she’s a strict teacher.

The show’s official website had previously revealed two new additions to the cast, in Atsumi Tanezaki (The Perfect Insider‘s Moe Nishinosono) and Nao Toyama (Nisekoi‘s Chitoge). TRUE also performed the first season’s opening theme song, and Kitauji Quartet will also return to perform an as-yet-untitled ending theme.

With last month’s English trailer unveiling, the site also noted that the Kitauji High School Concert Band’s first regular concerts in Kyoto, to be held on October 1st and 2nd, will feature Yuko Yoshikawa seiyu Yuri Yamaoka as a talk show guest. The Kanagawa performances on November 20th will then invite Minako Kotobuki, Asuka Tanaka’s voice actor in the first season, to talk about the show.

The first anime series adapted Ayano Takeda and Nikki Asada’s novel Hibike! Euphonium Kitauji Koko Suisoraku-Bu e Yokoso, following the Kitauji High School Concert Band in their efforts to regain their school’s past glory in the national competitions. The second series will pick up where the first left off, and show us how they’ve moved on from their tense performance in the national qualifiers.

  1. Cool, I rather enjoyed the first season. It was much deeper than the K-On clone I was expecting.
