In August, Bleach fans were invited to be extras on the set of the live-action movie adaptation. The details on this notice had the film shooting in the suburbs of Japan’s Kanto region from September, and planning to continue until around mid-November. As was near-inevitable, it seems a spectator took some snaps of proceedings, showing Sota Fukishi as Ichigo Kurosaki and prompting mixed reactions online.
Some said the images above portrayed a very credible Ichigo, while others weren’t sure about the sword, saying it looked like a school play prop. But we’re sure the sword pictured is meant as a stand-in for perspective when it comes to CGI and special effects in post-production – a prop by any other name. Ichigo looks good enough for us, even from a few sneak shots of an actor who’ll be far better framed in any official stills or trailers.
This interpretation of Tite Kubo’s manga is scheduled for release in 2018. Fukushi previously played the live-action Library Wars‘ Hikaru Tezuka and Kamen Rider Fourze‘s Gentaro Kisaragi, and is being directed by Shinsuke Sato of the live-action Gantz and I Am a Hero films.
