For this month’s run of the MCM London Comic Con, two Anime Guests of Honour have been announced, leaving just enough time for us to prepare for those nerve-wracking meet and greets. You can book tickets now for Friday, October 28th to Sunday 30th.

First up is Psycho-Pass director Naoyoshi Shiotani, though his work on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Oblivion Island are not to be forgotten. The convention’s press release states: “As well as signing autographs for fans over the Comic Con weekend, Shiotani is to present an on-stage panel about his work on Psycho-Pass and other titles on the Saturday of the show.” His visit to London falls just before his feature, Psycho-Pass: The Movie, hits shelves in the UK on October 31st.

And joining Shiotani is Takeshi Honda, animation director of all three Rebuild of Evangelion films so far. The press release announcing his visit details his full career, from Metal Fighter Miku to EVA and beyond:

After working on the original Neon Genesis Evangelion, Takeshi Honda returned to the famous sci-fi franchise when creator Hideaki Anno rebooted it as Rebuild of Evangelion. Joining Anno’s Studio Khara, Honda acted as mechanical animation director on Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, animation director on Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance and chief animation director on the latest in the series, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo.

Since he made his debut as a character designer on 1994’s Metal Fighter Miku, Takeshi Honda has worked on a wealth of well-known anime titles – including the late, great Satoshi Kon’s Millennium Actress and Perfect Blue, Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo and The Wind Rises and Mamoru Hosoda’s The Boy and the Beast. Other credits include Kill la KillWhen Marnie Was ThereA Letter to MomoSpace Dandy and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.

Honda is also a director in his own right, recently collaborating with Mahiro Maeda to helm a short film with an extremely long title – 20min Walk From Nishi-Ogikubo Station, 2 Bedrooms, Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, 2mos Deposit, No Pets Allowed – as part of the Japan Animator Expo movie omnibus.

One of my pals is going to London for the convention. No idea if he will check out the director’s panel. He has yet to watch Psycho Pass, despite all the times I have recommended it.

*gasp!* The heathen. We’re very jealous of him though, we spent all our money on a Star Trek convention last weekend. No more cons for us this year!
