Mind Game and Berserk trilogy artist Tooru Hishiyama has died

Studio 4°C posted to their official Twitter bearing the news that art director and background artist Tooru Hishiyama has passed away. The studio said that, before his death on October 15th, he’d been working with them for a long time, drawing wonderful background art for many of their works.

They added that Hishiyama was always telling jokes, and they’d always thought that he would return to them in good health. “We are deeply saddened,” they said, and ended the tweet with a wish for Hishiyama’s happiness in the next world. Known for acting as art director for the anime film Mind Game, he would later work on art design for the Berserk movie trilogy. He also served as a background artist on Grave of the FirefliesA Wind Named AmnesiaMobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory and Princess Arete.

His playful and passionate artistic talent will be missed, as deeply as Hishiyama himself. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this tragic time.
