Doraemon voice actor Kaneta Kimotsuki passes away

TV Asahi News announced on their official Twitter that voice actor Kaneta Kimotsuki has passed away at the age of 80. He may be most beloved for portraying Takeshi Gouda in the original 1973 Doraemon anime, then going on to voice Suneo in the series’ 1979 adaptation.

Taking on the role of Gouda until Kazuya Tatekabe took over in 1979, he then switched over to Suneo, picking up from Shun Yashiro who’d held the role until then. He’d also been cast as the Conductor in Galaxy Express 999, Great Briten/007 in Cyborg 009, Horrorman in Soreike! Anpanman, Dracula in Kaibutsu-kun and Yoshiteru in Yuki Yuna is a Hero. His career expanded into Japanese dubs of American animations such as The AristoCatsThe Little Mermaid, and Tom & Jerry for which he voiced Tom. He additionally voiced Jiminy Cricket in Disney’s Pinocchio, a role he returned to for the Kingdom Hearts video games.

With this in mind, it’s fair to say that Disney and anime fans the world over have enjoyed his performances, and will miss them from now on. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, now a man who spent a long and fruitful career in voice acting can rest in peace.
