High School DxD, Full Metal Panic! and Yuki Yuna is a Hero announce new anime seasons

Three anime series with devout followings have been lined up for new seasons in pretty much one fell swoop. This past weekend’s Fantasia Bunko Big Thanks Festival announced the teased return of Full Metal Panic!, as well as more High School DxD. And on Sunday, Yuki Yuna is a Hero‘s second season was announced on the show’s official Twitter. All these shows are slated for 2017, with Full Metal Panic! IV‘s fall release and staff also confirmed.

Katsuichi Nakayama, assistant director for Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, is directing at studio XEBEC, while the original Full Metal Panic! novels’ author Shoji Gatoh is on series composition and scriptwriting. Osamu Horiuchi is the character designer and chief animation director, back from Full Metal Panic! and Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, with Aya Yamamoto, animation director on My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Too!, as sub-character designer. Takeshi Yoshioka, who acted as chief animation director for Classroom Crisis, is small arms designer and animation director, and Kanetake Ebikawa and Toshiaki Ihara both return on mechanical design. Takayuki Yanase, mechanical designer on Ghost in the Shell ARISE, is the set designer, and Masanori Nishii of Star Blazers 2199 is the mechanical director.

Ichiei Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero’s High School DxD light novel series has already been adapted as anime three times. High School DxD came first in 2012, then High School DxD New in 2013, followed by High School DxD BorN in 2015. All these series were produced by studio TNK and directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa.

As for Yuki Yuna, this new season will be split into two parts. The first part will be a 6-episode prequel titled Yuki Yuna is a Hero – Washio Sumi Chapter, and the second will be a sequel to the 2014 original anime, titled Yuki Yuna is a Hero – Hero Chapter. The prequel adapts Takahiro and BUNBUN’s illustrated novel series Washio Sumi wa Yuusha de Aru (Washio Sumi is a Hero), and will receive theatrical screenings in March 2017 before the TV series is released.

I am very happy to see more Full Metal Panic after all this time. The first series of DXD was one of the better ecchi shows out there. Good to know that I have a few more seasons of action and eye candy to look forward to.

  2. I know not many people are going to really say this but I’m really excited about Yuki Yuna! I didn’t expect to see any more of it but I loved the show and seeing it coming back makes me very happy!
