Happy Birthday to Goku seiyuu Masako Nozawa

From roles in 1963’s Astro Boy all the way through to Dragon Ball Super, Masako Nozawa was there when anime took its first test flights, and as it grew into today’s globally celebrated art form. She’s best known as the voice of Dragon Ball‘s Goku, and also plays Gohan, Goten, Goku Jr, Black Goku and Bardock. It’s a feat of generations that’s seen her take on the honourary title of “The Eternal Boy”, and yet, on October 26th, she celebrated her 80th birthday.

With the terrible losses to anime we’ve been mourning lately, Doraemon‘s Kaneta Kimotsuki, Ghibli colour designer Michiyo Yasuda, and Boom Boom Satellites’ Michiyuki Kawashima among them, it brings some welcome cheer to know that one of our most beloved voice actors is well and celebrating a massive milestone birthday. Many happy returns, Nozawa-san. May you keep on voicing anime’s most famous family of loveable idiots for many more years to come.

Vegeta won’t be amused when he learns that he was technically beaten by an eighty year old granny.
