Voice actor Inori Minase has been pushed to cancel several upcoming event appearances in Japan and Taiwan, after receiving murder threats from an unknown individual. In a comment her agency Sony Music Artists recently released, it was confirmed that the suspect has not yet been brought into custody, as several news sites had reported that a man in his 20s from Kaohsiungn, Taiwan had already been arrested. The agency noted they are yet to receive such a report from Taiwan’s jurisdictional police.

As of yet, the police have only reported the suspect on charges of blackmail, which means that the man would still be free to attend any one of her public appearances. The latest one to be cancelled is for Anime JAM 2016, where she was scheduled to join a stage event for Re:ZERO as the voice of Rem. She’s also known for voicing Chino in Is the Order a Rabbit? and Hestia in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?.

Minase has repeatedly apologised for the cancellations on her blog, saying she is still working, but frustrated and irritated by the circumstances. She was set to promote her first anime single, ‘Starry Wish’ for the ending of ViVid Strike!, at several cancelled events. It’s also her third single as a solo singer, and she said of her disappointment “I am hoping to sing the three songs (on the ‘Starry Wish’ CD) in front of everyone someday. I can’t pretend that nothing happened.”

Here’s the full list of her cancelled event appearances:

December 3rd – LisAni! LIVE Taiwan
December 10th – Masamune-kun’s Revenge advance screening
December 11th – Anime JAM 2016

Cancelled promotional events for ‘Starry Wish’:

November 26th – Gamers Namba (Osaka)
November 27th – Animate Hiroshima
November 27th – Animate Kokura (Fukuoka)
December 4th – Animate Taipei (Taiwan)
December 17th – Toranoana Akihabara (Tokyo)
December 23rd – Animate Ikebukuro Main Store (Tokyo)
December 23rd – Gamers Akihabara (Tokyo)

We’re wishing Minase all the best, and hoping she stays safe. As disappointing as these cancellations are for everyone who was planning to attend, we can all understand that they are necessary for her fans’ wellbeing as much as her own.

This awful. I can’t think of anything to describe this circumstances. Sometimes I really dislike these kinds of people that take pleasure in evil.

It scares me to think it just takes a couple of death threats to not only put someone in danger but also ruin a lot of the fun many people were looking forward to. :/

remyfool

This is very tragic.

It’s so sad 🙁 Why does she have to cancel such important events for one person, argh. She has a great voice too…

Cat

It’s really sad that this happens, why can’t “fans” and people just realize they’re human beings and idol is just a title, and they shouldn’t do or treat people like this? Ugh 💢

I first liked this post, but then I thought better of it: what is there to like really? It is so sad that we seem to live in a world where things like this keep happening. I hope the person whoever he or she is, get’s taken into custody real soon. Feel sad for her that she has to cancel such wonderful events, for on individual. Hope everything will be well for her very soon.

Well said my friend. You do feel for her more than anything, because you know it’s painful for her to drop these events, and not sing the songs she was so looking forward to sharing with her fans. It’s totally beyond me how people will go to these lengths to ruin the happiness of so many people.

raistlin0903

Totally agree on that. Luckily there are still a lot of good people in this world as well. It’s sad individuals like this exist, but unfortunately I guess not much can be done to avoid things like this 🙁

It’s sickening, but it is inevitable that you will get people who are so furious or damaged that they will end up doing this. But that makes it all the more powerful when so many can still find it in themselves to be forces for good. And those people are in the majority still, no matter how widespread these acts of hate seem. All we can do is be one of them.

Alane

Oh, that’s so bad. 🙁 I hope she stays safe
