Manga author Coolkyoushinja, known for her comic strip I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying, is having her 2013 ongoing Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid adapted as an anime by Kyoto Animation. The official website for the anime updated  with the show’s first promo video yesterday. It’s set to premiere on January 11th, but while we wait, let’s bounce along to the catchy and colourful trailer.

The cast have been revealed as follows:

Mutsumi Tamura (Overlord‘s Ninya) as Kobayashi

Yuuki Kuwahara (Scorching Ping Pong Girls‘ Hokuto Itsumo) as Tohru

Maria Naganawa (Occultic;Nine‘s Chizu Kawabata) as Kanna

Yuuki Takada (New Game!‘s Aoba Suzukaze) as Eruma

Minami Takahashi (Flip Flappers‘ Cocona) as Rukoa

Daisuke Ono (Black Butler‘s Sebastian Michaelis) as Fafnir

Yuuichi Nakamura (Fairy Tail‘s Gray Fullbuster) as Makoto Takiya

As for the staff, Yasuhiro Takemoto of Lucky Star is directing at KyoAni, while Yuka Yamada of Neo Angelique Abyss is in charge of scripts. Miku Kadowaki, who worked on Amagi Brilliant Park with Takemoto, designs the characters, and Masumi Itou of Flip Flappers is composing music. The band fhána will perform the opening theme song, and the group Choro-gonzu, made up of the seiyu for Tohru, Kanna, Eruma and Rukoa, will perform the ending theme.

Coolkyoushinja launched the manga in the first issue of Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine in May 2013. The fourth volume was published in Japan on May 12th, and the fifth is due for release on December 12th. Seven Seas published the first volume in North America on October 18th, and they describe the story as follows:

Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail!), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not. With a very persistent and amorous dragon as a roommate, nothing comes easy, and Miss Kobayashi’s normal life is about to go off the deep end!
