Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine announced earlier this month that the Blue Exorcist -Kyoto Saga- (Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujou Ou-hen) anime will premiere on January 6th. But one of the cast previously confirmed to return won’t be making that date as part of the show. 79-year-old Takashi Inagaki, who voiced Ryuji Suguro’s father Tatsuma all through the first season, has had to cancel his appearance in this second season due to illness. He will be undergoing medical treatment, as Jin Urayama takes his place in the role. Urayama has recently voiced Yoshiaki Kita in ALL OUT!!.
The new cast joining the series were previously revealed as follows:
Katsuyuki Konishi (Gurren Lagann‘s Kamina) as Juzo Shima
Kisho Taniyama (Kuromukuro‘s Yoruba) as Kinzo Shima
M.A.O (Space Patrol Luluco‘s Luluco) as Mamushi Hojo
Kazuhiro Yamaji (91 Days‘ Vincente Vanetti) as Saburota Todo
In October, we were introduced to these new characters joining the anime with a trailer for the Kyoto Saga. But for those of us who only know a few choice words of Japanese, Aniplex of America posted an English subtitled version of the same promo. So go ahead and see what the Impure King’s resurrection is all about.
Jump Square revealed back in July that Koichi Hatsumi of Deadman Wonderland and Gangsta will replace Tensai Okamura as the new series’ director at A-1 Pictures, with Toshiya Ono of Gatchaman Crowds and tsuritama taking over from Ryota Yamaguchi on series composition. Keigo Sasaki is back on character design, and Hiroyuki Sawano returns in charge of the score, but he’ll be composing alongside newcomer Kohta Yamamoto who, like Sawano, is represented by management company Legendoor.
