The Gintama live-action movie seemed a samurai’s age away when it was first confirmed back in June, but would you believe, 2017 is now just around the corner. To celebrate, the film’s official website has started streaming its first teaser trailer. So, let’s take a peek at Shun Oguri’s Gin-san in action.

Joining the Lupin III live-action’s Oguri as Gintoki Sakata, 14 more cast were added to the Yoruzuya team and beyond for this adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi’s manga. Gin, Shinpachi and Kagura have all been given their live-action character visuals as below, with most of their fellow cast posed beside their manga counterparts:

Masaki Suda (Princess Jellyfish live-action movie’s Kuranosuke Koibuchi) as Shinpachi Shimura

Kanna Hashimoto (Assassination Classroom live-action movie’s Ritsu) as Kagura

Masami Nagasawa (From Up On Poppy Hill‘s Umi Matsuzaki) as Tae Shimura

Masaki Okada (Maho Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto live-action movie’s Gota Midorikawa) as Kotaro Katsura

Tsuyoshi Muro (HK/Hentai Kamen live-action movie’s Tamao Ogane) as Gengai Hiraga

Ken Yasuda (When Marnie Was There‘s Toichi) as Tetsuya Murata

Akari Hayami as Tetsuko Murata

Tsuyoshi Domoto as Shinsuke Takasugi

The film will open in Japan in summer 2017, and Yuichi Fukuda of the HK/Hentai Kamen film is the director and scriptwriter.

Sorachi’s Gintama has been ongoing in Shonen Jump since 2004, and entered its final arc in the summer. Though Sorachi last said he didn’t yet know whether the manga would end this year or next, we can safely assume it will be next year now. The manga’s anime adaptations reached their 10th anniversary this year, and the latest came to an end in March. But a new anime has since been announced, set to air on January 9th.
