Fuji TV and its noitaminA anime block held a Project Unveiling Event livestream yesterday, and the major announcement was for more Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Tetsuro Araki, director of the WIT Studio show, confirmed for wary fans himself that the new work will be animated. The TV anime’s follow-up is scheduled for sometime in 2018, but will be complemented by two compilation films and a drama CD before that. The CD will continue the story of this year’s anime.
The original anime premiered on April 7th, and ended on July 1st. The second episode was delayed due to the Kumamoto quakes which struck on April 15th, the broadcast resuming from the second episode one week later. Amazon streamed it as it aired, and describe the show as follows:
During the industrial revolution, mankind is threatened by a sudden emergence of undead monsters who can only be killed by piercing their heart through an iron plate. Those bitten become one of them. Called “Kabane,” these monsters exploded in number. The Hinomoto people built fortress stations and barricaded themselves inside. Only steam locomotives, the Hayajiros, can travel between them.
