Like it or not, it seems the live-action Hollywood Naruto is going ahead. On the Naruto X Boruto stage at Jump Festa on Saturday, it was announced that Michael Gracey is attached to direct. No surprises here, as this news was confirmed around this time last December. But there has been one addition that might comfort fans a little – Naruto manga author Masashi Kishimoto himself is in cahoots with the Lionsgate production.
While Kishimoto works on that, he’ll also be involved with the anime for his hero’s son, Boruto. April 2017 will see the beginning of the next saga, based on Ukyo Kodachi and Mikie Ikimoto’s manga Boruto – Naruto Next Generations. With Studio Pierrot back on production, it’s since been confirmed that the anime is indeed a series, and Kishimoto said on stage “I plan to make it even better than Naruto“.
TV Tokyo opened an official website that same day, revealing the visual, cast and promo video for the show also titled Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Crunchyroll are streaming the promo on Twitter with English subtitles, so enjoy the re-introduction to anime’s new rambunctious ninja, wherever you are.
The show will star the following returning cast from Boruto – Naruto the Movie – :
Yuko Sanpei as Boruto Uzumaki
Kokoro Kikuchi as Sarada Uchiha
Ryuichi Kijima as Mitsuki
Junko Takeuchi as Naruto Uzumaki
Kodachi and Ikimoto launched the manga in Shonen Jump on May 9th, where it’s running as a sequel to Kishimoto’s Naruto. Up to now, the manga has been following the story of Boruto – Naruto the Movie – , which was the world’s introduction to the character. Boruto‘s second manga volume was released in Japan on December 2nd, and the two volumes already have over 1 million copies in print. Just goes to show, Boruto’s a chip off the old block. He isn’t about to be overshadowed by his dad, Hokage or no.
