With the second season of Voltron: Legendary Defender finally premiering on January 20th, DreamWorks have released a new trailer to stoke the hype. The evil Zarkon is still on the prowl, but our heroes will have more battles to contend with as they discover new worlds. Check it all out in the video below.
Executive producers Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery, alongside writer Tim Hedrick, originally announced at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con that the show would get a second Netflix-exclusive season in 2016. For the rest of the summer the team went quiet, but in October they posted the first trailer for the new season.
Season 1 premiered on June 10th and was animated by Studio Mir, bringing Dos Santos, Montgomery and Hedrick back to work under their old Legend of Korra banner, and featuring the following voice cast:
Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) as Keith
Jeremy Shada (Adventure Time) as Lance
Bex Taylor-Klaus (Arrow) as Pidge
Josh Keaton (Green Lantern: The Animated Series) as Shiro
Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil) as Hunk
Kimberly Brooks (Mass Effect) as Princess Allura
Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords) as Coran
Neil Kaplan (Transformers: Robots in Disguise) as King Zarkon
The character known as Shiro returned from the ’80s Voltron series, in which he was named Sven. He, in turn, was adapted from the character of Takashi Shirogane in King of Beasts GoLion when this show was reinterpreted as Voltron. Shiro and his friends Keith, Lance, Hunk and Pidge set out to defend Arus from King Zarkon’s alien forces, and this first series, unlike the original, prided itself on giving all of its characters backstories, as well their own individual reasons for taking on the mission.
