The cast of Macross Delta joined fans over the weekend for the second Walküre concert at Yokohama arena. As it ended on Sunday, the audience was left with plenty more to be excited for. Several announcements were made for this year’s 35th anniversary of the Macross sci-fi romance anime franchise, including a new TV anime slated for 2018.

The Sunday concert will be made available on home video in Japan, and a super dimensional film project is also being planned as part of the anniversary celebrations. As for the anime, however, further details are yet to be announced.

In 1982, Macross first launched with the Super Dimension Fortress Macross anime, a show of music, love triangles and transforming mecha jets. Macross 7Macross Frontier and Macross Delta would all follow from there, along with several anime films and original anime video series. Delta, the most recent TV series in the franchise, aired from April to September last year, after a preview of the first episode streamed on New Year’s Eve in 2015.

I am a huuuugeee Macross fan, and I can’t be more thrilled and excited to read this news. Whatever they are planning for the new series, I hope it will feature some great flashbacks to the series of old. It would be very nice to do that especially with this being the 35 the anniversary. Thank you for sharing this news 😊

Romance, you say? But it’s a mecha, right?
