Hideaki Anno at work on next project

Akihiro Yamauchi, executive producer of Hideaki Anno’s Shin Godzilla, made an appearance at the Kinema Jumpo awards on Sunday. As well as accepting the new Godzilla movie’s award for Best Scriptwriter on Anno’s behalf, he had a brief update on what the director was getting up to in his absence. His short acceptance speech went as follows:

I’m sorry to those who hoped to see Director Anno! Director Anno is a man of few words, so all he had to say was “thank you very much.” He puts all his heart into his work, so please see it two or three times. He is already working on his next project.

Last July, Anno apologised for the long delay on the fourth and final Rebuild of Evangelion film. Feeling that working on Shin Godzilla saved him from severe Evangelion exhaustion, he said he believed he could now go back to working on the anime. Animation director Takeshi Honda also mentioned a few months later that the team had started work on the new movie. So it seems hopeful that, though Anno is being his secretive self for now, Evangelion 3.0+1.0 really is the project in question.

  1. I just hope we get the final Evangelion film soon. Still, I bet he is tired after working on that Godzilla movie. I hope he remembers to get some rest too.
