Pokémon I Choose You! movie soars in with a trailer

This year’s new Pokémon film was announced as Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! in December. With the film set to open on July 15th, it’s been given its first proper visual today, along with a trailer and teaser video.

The film’s official website has summarised the story, which tells of how Ash (Satoshi) and Pikachu first came to know each other. As fans will know, Pikachu didn’t want to cooperate with Ash at the start, even though all Ash wanted was for the two of them to be friends. But a bond was formed the day they set out towards Pallet Town (Masara Town), and they saw a Ho-oh flying overhead, as in the visual below. Together, they made a vow that they would someday go and meet the magnificent Pokémon.

Satoshi Tajiri is once again credited with the original work, with Pokémon regular Kunihiko Yuyama retuning to direct. The title itself is a call back to the first episode of the Pokémon anime from so long ago in 1997. ‘Pokémon! Kimi ni Kimeta!’ was the Japanese title of that episode, and so this announcement has been giving us some strong tingles of nostalgia. How about you? What else do you guys think might be in store for this movie?
