You heard right, Guts will soon strike back in the pages of Kentaro Miura’s manga. With the new anime season slated for April 7th, Berserk will return to Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine on March 24th.
In September, Young Animal announced the demonic fantasy manga would go on hiatus until “around” summer 2017. That was after it had returned from a previous six-month hiatus in June. Having kept its promise this time, hopefully it’s back for the long haul. But from here on in, the series will continue on an irregular basis.
The 1989 ongoing’s June return coincided with the Japanese release of the manga’s 38th volume. Before that, Hakusensha released the 37th volume in March 2013. Dark Horse Comics, who publish the manga in English, likewise released volume 37 in December 2013. But Dark Horse have since scheduled the long-awaited English release of volume 38 for July this year.
Berserk‘s first anime adaptation aired in 1997, and spawned a film trilogy released between 2012 and 2013. The reboot anime premiered on July 1st, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. The streaming service gives the show the following description:
Spurred by the flame raging in his heart, the Black Swordsman Guts continues his seemingly endless quest for revenge. Standing in his path are heinous outlaws, delusional evil spirits, and a devout child of god.Even as it chips away at his life, Guts continues to fight his enemies, who wield repulsive and inhumane power, with nary but his body and sword—his strength as a human. What lies at the end of his travels? The answer is shrouded in the “night.” Strain your eyes and stare into the dark!
