Kore Yamazaki’s manga will be going the whole hog and coming to TV screens for a two-cour (half year) anime series. Attack on Titan‘s illustrious WIT Studio returns from the three-part OVA to produce, and cast and staff details just arrived today.
The main voice talent returns from the prequel OVA as follows:
Atsumi Tanezaki as Chise Hatori
Ryota Takeuchi as Elias
Kouki Uchiyama as Ruth
Aya Endo as Silver
The key staff follow suit with Norihiro Naganuma back as director, and also in charge of scripts. Aya Takaha will be penning the scripts, and Hirotaka Kato returns in charge of character designs. A visual has also been revealed, containing a quote from the opening lines of the manga: “Beyond the dull walls of cement… deep, deep within the ancient, misty forest… There lies another world. That world is far closer to ours than you might imagine.”
As the visual lists, the anime will premiere in October 2017, and Crunchyroll have confirmed that they will be streaming the series.
The original story for the anime prequel The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Those Awaiting a Star was written by Yamazaki himself, who launched the manga in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Blade magazine in 2013. The series then moved to Comic Garden in 2014. Seven Seas publish the manga in North America, and describe its story as follows:
Chise Hatori has lived a life full of neglect and abuse, devoid of anything resembling love. Far from the warmth of family, she has had her share of troubles and pitfalls. Just when all hope seems lost, a fateful encounter awaits her. When a man with the head of a beast, wielding strange powers, obtains her through a slave auction, Chise’s life will never be the same again.
The man is a “magus,” a sorcerer of great power, who decides to free Chise from the bonds of captivity. The magus then makes a bold statement: Chise will become his apprentice – and his bride!
