The latest update on progress with the final Rebuild of Evangelion comes straight from studio Khara, with a tweet confirming that the movie is in production. With an image of some scattered, secretive documents and a sneaky Godzilla watching over proceedings, the studio stated: “Shin Eva meeting. We’re hard at work in production!”

In November, UK Anime Network had the pleasure of interviewing Takeshi Honda, animation producer for Neon Genesis Evangelion and the Rebuild of Evangelion films. At the end of the interview, Honda stated that the fourth film in the tetralogy was already in development. Before that, creator Hideaki Anno apologised profusely to fans, saying he felt he could go back to Evangelion after absolving his franchise exhaustion through his directorial work on Shin Godzilla.

A long time ago in 2012, the film’s Japanese title was revealed as Evangelion Shin Gekijouban :||. The symbol “:||” is often used in sheet music, denoting repetition of a measure after reaching its end.

The third film in the Rebuild series, Evangelion 3.33 You Can (Not) Redo, was released in the UK by Manga Entertainment in 2016. If you’d like, you can read our review right here.

This is something that I will seriously look forward despite of some factors that somehow I disliked. Overall, I’m still hype as f… to see this new movie from the Evangelion franchise.

Holy Crap finally! An End to Evangelion…joking aside I am glad this is being made.

I’m so excited, once it comes out I can binge them aaaah
I’m scared too, cause I’ve been told the storyline has been changed, but I hope they’ll finally put it to rest like it deserves too.

I have just completed the original series, and I am not a big fan of reboots, remakes or any other type of re-something or others lol. I have heard pretty much that the original is the best, and judging from Karandis comment I think I am going to pass on those. Still great to see that such a briljant classic lives on 😀

I agree, the reboot has its own charm but it can’t compare to the original.

Glad to hear they are starting this one. I heard they were busy with the new Godzilla movie.

While I’m glad they are finally finishing this I really am not a fan of these films. I’m definitely going to stick with the original anime for my evangelion fix.
