We’re back for the first weekly round-up in…how long? Too long, that’s what! But the main thing is, we’re happy to be here to bring you all the best of this week’s news, reviews and features from littleanimeblog, as well as all the great writing we’ve seen from you guys these past few days. Let’s get started!
We saw the Pokémon anime reach its 1000th episode in November, but now the franchise has broken through an even bigger milestone.
Everyone who’s shed their tears for Made in Abyss and yearned for more, fear not, for a sequel’s a short dive away.
Confusion swirled over the all-Japanese cast of Fumihiko Sori’s live-action Fullmetal Alchemist film. But Sori has stepped in to explain his line of thinking over the decision.
Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki has described Hayao Miyazaki’s upcoming film as a hand-drawn “action-adventure fantasy”.
Finally, a countdown to a “major announcement” for the Ultraman manga came to fruition this week, and it’s certainly major.
Here’s where we wrap up the posts we’re most proud of from this week, just for you! Let’s see what we’ve got…
Dominic whipped up an unforgettable piece about the ever-present amnesia trope, where it flops, and where it’s much more than just a convenient story prop.
Fly away with the denizens of Norn and melt into its serene beauty.
Cool stuff from around the we(e)b
Here’s a new little feature we’ve brought to our regular round-up, where we’ll share bulletins and tidbits of stuff that’s made us smile. Let’s have a look at what wowed us this week, shall we?
It’s-a me, Super Mario cereal!
Kelloggs and Nintendo are milking the popularity of the Switch, pouring out a new cereal set to hit shelves in North America in December. If that weren’t marshmallowy goodness enough, the box doubles as its own ‘amiibo’ you can tap with your Switch for gold coins or a heart in Super Mario Odyssey. Friends in the States, send us a box?
Dark Souls meets Cuphead in fan-made mashup
Every new game that’s tough is doomed to run up against Dark Souls comparisons, and it was no different for Cuphead. But rather than have them flail at each other, YouTube channel 64 Bits got them to work together in chunky retro glory. So cute!
Snuggle while you work with Mew computer cushion
On the overflowing list of things I want is this Mew cushion, who helps you improve your posture as well as offering cuddle breaks – something I find myself craving quite often. The plushie’s keyboard arm rest is removable too, so they can be displayed separately, if you so desire.
Last but not least, if you’re a UK otaku who loves to cosplay, Cosplay Sky is your one-stop shop for all the togs, wigs and props you need. Their stock really is extensive, but we especially adore their Ciel costume. All the accessories, I can’t even.
Now for our favourite bit, giving you creds for your awesome posts. Let’s look at all you’ve been doing to keep our brains happily ticking over.
The Cinemoptimist – Perfect Blue and Black Swan: An Homage to Insanity – We recently rewatched Perfect Blue, and The Cinemoptimist was there to sate our thirst for discourse, comparing and contrasting Satoshi Kon’s masterpiece with Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan and discussing how they exist together in homage to insanity.
I Drink and Watch Anime – Soul Eatin Mondays – week 13 – This is one chuckle-worthy blog we’ve somehow only just stumbled across. We’re loving catching up on Irina’s Soul Eater challenge with added drinking games (even though I can’t partake because baby) and she wrote a great little guide to Blogger Decorum in tandem with Remy Fool too.
Lethargic Ramblings – In with the New: My Struggle to Get Into Older Anime – Safe to say that Lethargic is one of the bloggers we most missed keeping up with on a regular basis during our hiatus. But it’s great to see they’re still writing thoughtful pieces like this one.
